Phone Scam using the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office Phone Number The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office has recently received multiple reports of scam calls with caller ID indicating the phone number is from 749-2530, which is the phone number to the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office.
In one call, the scammer told the person that she failed to show up to court as ordered by subpoena and needed to post a $3000 bond in order to stay out of jail.
Other common types of law enforcement related scams involve telling callers that they or one of their family members have an arrest warrant, missed jury duty or some other civil infraction.
Often times the scammers require payment using prepaid credit or gift cards. Law Enforcement will not call and ask for bond money in the form of prepaid credit or gift cards in order to satisfy an arrest warrant or other legal infraction.
Callers should never give out personal (Social Security Number, Date of Birth, etc.) or financial (credit card or bank account) information when receiving these types of calls.
The best practice is to avoid talking to anyone when receiving calls of this nature. Contact the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office at (712) 749-2530 for further information.
